As a representative of the Slemish Student Council, I agree to the following:
Certificates will be presented in June 2008 to each Student Council Representative, detailing their achievements throughout the year and congratulating them on a job well done.
Dear Parent/Guardian
I am writing to you as your son/daughter has been elected as a representative of the Student Council within Slemish College. This is an excellent opportunity for your son/daughter to contribute to the life of our school as well as developing key skills in a social context. Your child will be responsible for airing issues brought to him / her by the other students of the form class and will play an active role in addressing such issues in order to create a more positive school environment.
The Student Council in our school will be student-led, and so, your child will gain confidence in public speaking and debating; learn how to communicate effectively; set, review and achieve a variety of targets; take the initiative and have a good time meeting and working together with other students throughout the Year groups in Slemish College.
The School Council will have a compulsory meeting once a month after school from 3.30pm – 4.15pm and refreshments will be provided. As your son / daughter has committed him/herself to the Council, it is important that he/she attends every meeting. I am enclosing the relevant dates for this academic year to make you aware of each meeting so that you can make alternative travel arrangements on these days.
The December meeting will be confirmed at a later date as this will be the end of our first term and the President and Vice-President of the Student Council will meet with Dr Jennings to discuss progress on issues arising throughout the term.
The April meeting will be the second appointment with Dr Jennings to review Term 2.
I have enclosed a contract that your son /daughter must sign and return to me on or before the first meeting in September. This will be the first step in taking responsibility for being a member of the Student Council and realising the importance that is placed upon it at our school.
I look forward to our first meeting where we will be electing students for individual positions within the Council, as well as beginning discussions for exciting new plans for the Student Council this year and answering any questions that our members may have.
Kind regards
Mrs L. Nicholl
